12,005 Still at Flood Relief Centres in Pahang

KUANTAN – The number of evacuees at six flood-hit districts in Pahang continues to record improvement with 12,005 remaining at temporary evacuation centres.

As of 8am, the victims from 3,789 families were occupying 89 evacuation centres compared to 16,579 victims recorded early yesterday.

The worst affected district, Temerloh registered 5, 296 people from 1,580 families seeking shelter at 17 relief centres.

Bentong registered 2,293 people from 895 families in 17 relief centres. Pekan has 1,766 victims from 566 families seeking shelter at 24 relief centres.

Maran has 1,098 victims from 319 families at 19 centres followed by Bera with 1,069 victims from 290 families at eight relief centres.

Flood victims at Kuantan recorded 483 victims from 139 families remaining at three relief centres.

A state Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said continuous promising weather has allowed flood victims to return and clean their homes.

He said, “In some areas, the water has completely receded but homes are covered with thick layers of mud and debris. The occupants decide to clean their home during the day and return to stay at the relief centres at night.”

Nine districts in Pahang were struck by the floods forcing some 38,000 people to be evacuated at the relief centres.
