RANTAU PANJANG – Twenty villagers living in low-lying regions in Kampung Lubok Setol here today got fire extinguishers and smoke detectors to assist them with managing little flames.
Each beneficiary got one unit of extinguisher and a box containing a smoke detector from Kelantan Fire and Rescue director Zainal Mandasin.
The giving over of the items were held in a simple ceremony at the Kampung Lubok Setol community hall.
Zainal said the program was part of the “One House, One Fire Extinguisher” campaign aimed at educating the public on the dangers of fire and its preventive measures.
“The program is held every year. The village is the first to receive these things this year.
“Similar programs will be carried out in other areas soon,” he said.
In the mean time, beneficiaries expressed gratitude and thanked toward the department for the donation.
Mohd Azam Seman, who is a dad of five said the things would be extremely helpful to his family.
“I am a semi-paralysed man and I unable to move like other normal people. If the smoke detector was installed in my home, it will make my family aware of fire,” he said.
Foodstall owner Hayati Rashid said she would put one of the things she got at her home, while the other item would be set at her foodstall.
“This device is important as it helps villagers put out fire quickly,” said the 55-year-old mother of five.
