KOTA BHARU – About 400 pupils from the B40 group in Kelantan received computer equipment, including tablets and keyboards, from Yayasan Petronas yesterday.
Petronas East Coast senior manager Azeman Said said the schools that received the contributions were SK Buloh Poh, SK Tanjong Mas, SK Sri Bemban, Sekolah Rendah (Agama) Tengku Amalin, SK Gual Periok, SK Kepas, SK Sultan Ibrahim 2, SK Kok Pasir, SK Padang Mandol and SK Wakaf Bharu.
He said the programme was part of the foundation’s “Bridging the Online Learning Divide” (BOLD) programme.
“The programme is being organised with the co-operation of the state education department.”
“It is aimed to help to solve the problem that faces by students following the implementation of long-distance learning.”
“Through this programme, each student will get a tablet, a keyboard, internet data and education plan for 12 months and they will be guided by a volunteer tutor,” he said in a statement.
He added that 1,400 volunteers including 800 Petronas staff members would provide online learning service to the students using WhatsApp.
“Petronas is committed in providing quality education especially to students who were badly affected by Covid-19.”
“We hope this contribution will help improve their learning skills especially in English, among Year One to Year Three students,” he added.
Azeman said the BOLD programme involved 2,000 recipients from six states and in Kelantan, which covered Pasir Mas, Tumpat and Kota Bharu.
“BOLD is a continuation of the CERDIK programme which was introduced last year.”
“Last year, Petronas Foundation had contributed electronic devices and internet data worth RM30 million through CERDIK involving some 12,000 students nationwide,” he said.
