9 Still Missing in Pahang Floods

KUANTAN – Rescuers are still looking for nine people reported missing because of flood related incidents across Pahang.

The victims have been reported missing in four districts namely Bentong with four cases, Temerloh with two cases involving three people followed by Raub and Kuantan with one case each.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department deputy director (operations) Ismail Abdul Ghani said SAR operations entered its fifth day today, in Telemong and Bobby Eco Camp, both in Bentong.

Ismail said “In Telemong, a missing senior citizen was among 16 people swept away by raging murky river waters while on a bridge at Sungai Telemong at about 2am on Sunday. 10 people were found safe and five bodies have been recovered.

“A male adult is still missing after he was swept away by a column of water at the Bobby Eco Camp on Saturday night with two others. Rescuers have found the remains of a woman and a six-year-old boy at the site.”

He said the missing cases in Bentong involved a 28-year-old man in Kampung Tanjung Karak, Bentong who was reported missing on Dec 20 and a male adult who is believed to have drowned at Sungai Cerpai near Karak town yesterday.

A father and his 10-year-old son were reported missing when wading in a flooded football field near the Umno building in Mentakab, Temerloh on Dec 21. Another people which is a man was reportedly swept away while bathing with his relatives near a railway bridge at Sungai Krau in Temerloh, yesterday.

In Raub, a senior citizen is feared to have drowned while having his bath along a river bank at Kampung Cheroh yesterday. Por Kong Ming, 79, was last seen having his bath at the edge of the river at about 12.10pm before he was reported missing.

Meanwhile, Ismail said SAR operations to locate Mohd Firdhaus Supiardi, 26, who was reported missing after jumping off a bridge and was swept away by strong currents in Sungai Belat near Kampung Sri Damai in Kuantan on Dec 18 enters its sixth day today.
