KUALA LUMPUR – Covid-19 claimed another 26 lives on Jan 1, yesterday raising the nationwide death toll to 31,513.
According to data from CovidNow and Github, total fatalities were brought-in-dead (BID) cases was three.
Kuala Lumpur recorded the highest death rate with seven followed by Selangor with four deaths.
Three deaths reported each in Pahang, Perak and Terengganu; Kedah (2); Johor, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak (1).
In the past two weeks, Covid-19 deaths in Malaysia reported per million people has dropped with Terengganu the highest among the states with 28 deaths per million.
Yesterday, Malaysia reported 3,386 fresh cases bringing the overall total to 2,761,472 since the pandemic broke last year.
Hospital bed utilisation at has slightly improved to 62 per cent occupancy. Only four states reported utilisation above 70 per cent as of yesterday.
Checks at the same portal showed bed utilisation in Melaka was the highest with 81.1 per cent followed by Kedah with 73.3 per cent. Bed occupancy in Terengganu was at 71.6 per cent and Kelantan was at 71.3 per cent.
Bed utilisation in other states for Covid-19 patients was between 30.5 and 69.7 per cent.
In term of intensive care unit (ICU) utilisation rates for Covid-19 cases, two states were above the 70 per cent mark. Kuala Lumpur at 83.7 per cent and Putrajaya with 80 per cent. The rate at other states was between 33.3 per cent and 65.9 per cent with national average at 53.3 per cent.
Overall active Covid-19 cases has dropped to 41,034. Total recoveries from Covid-19 was 3,547 were reported, yesterday.
A total 33,896 individuals are observing home quarantine. Total active cases in the country was 82.6 per cent.
A total 8.2 per cent (3,357) are being treated at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC), 8.5 per cent (3,508) are hospitalised and the remaining 0.7 per cent are at intensive care units (ICU) with 114 unventilated and 159 ventilated.
Meanwhile, 25,616,109 individuals, equivalent to 78.4 per cent have been fully vaccinated from Covid-19 while 383,634 or 1.2 per cent are partially vaccinated.
6,657,657 people have yet to get any vaccines for Covid-19. A total 2,756,306 (87.6 per cent) of young people have been completely vaccinated while 91,488 (2.9 per cent) are partially vaccinated.
As of yesterday, 299,706 of the others remain unvaccinated, amounting to 9.5 per cent of the group.
This year, Malaysia is expected to reach its 80 per cent vaccinated target mark in 201 days on July 22.
