KUALA LUMPUR – Mass Rapid Transit Line 3 (MRT3) will enhance the public transportation coverage in the Greater Klang Valley.

Economist Professor Dr Yeah Kim Leng of the Sunway University said improved connectivity in the country’s most populous region would facilitate the shift to public transport and solve urban traffic congestion.

“The greater use of public transport is in line with the development of a low-carbon economy, as well as a cleaner environment with reduced air pollution problems.

“An efficient public transport system will generate savings in transport cost for the general public, especially the low-income group,” he said.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government had approved the construction of MRT3 that was suspended by the Pakatan Harapan-led federal administration.

He said MRT3 would complete the public transport infrastructure in the Klang Valley by providing an integrated transportation system that was affordable for the people.

He said it also would drive economic growth and development in line with the government’s aim to empower the business sector and create 600,000 jobs this year.
