Johoreans Told To Brace For Flash Floods Amid Continuous Rainfall

JOHOR BARU: Johor menteri besar has urged the people to be extra cautious following severe continuous heavy rainfall affecting several districts in the state including the capital city.

Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said apart from Johor Baru, other districts namely Kulai, Kluang, Mersing, and Kota Tinggi were expected to experience flash floods due to continuous heavy downpour, based on the Meteorology Department forecast.

He also urged the people in Pontian and Batu Pahat to remain vigilant with the escalated alert level.

“Please take the necessary precautions and adhere to the authorities’ instructions,” he said.

Since early this morning, several areas in Mersing, Kota Tinggi, and Kluang have been impacted by floods.

In Mersing, low-lying areas including Kampung Tenglu, Kampung Air Papan, and Endau’s vicinity were submerged in water, and several roads between Mersing and Endau were affected by rising water levels.

The District Public Works Department spokesman said currently only one lane was accessible on the affected roads.

The road from Kluang to Jamaluang at Section 126, is closed to all vehicles starting from Simpang Khalid after water overflowed onto the roads.

In Kota Tinggi, Jalan Batu 25 is closed to all vehicles due to overflowing water onto the roads.

Flash floods also occurred in Kluang. Kampung Contoh in Kahang, is inundated in water, while Jalan Mersing towards Mersing is closed to all vehicles.
