Covid-19 cases continue to climb with 871 cases reported today

The number of Covid-19 cases in the country continue to climb with another 871 cases reported as of noon today.

Malaysia hit a record high of 869 yesterday which means today’s figure is now the highest daily figure since the pandemic hit the country.

This raises Malaysia’s total number of coronavirus cases to 20,498.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia also recorded the highest number of recovery to date at 701, bringing the total number of recoveries to 13,262 or 64.7 per cent of the total number of cases in the country.

“Of the 871 cases, 866 were local transmissions, while the remaining five were imported, involving three Malaysians and two foreigners who entered the country from India (two cases in Selangor), Nepal (two cases in Selangor) and Singapore (one in Selangor).”

He said Sabah recorded the highest number of daily new cases today at 702, followed by Selangor (72), Penang (45), Perak (10), Labuan (nine), Kedah (nine), Kuala Lumpur (seven), Sarawak (five), Negeri Sembilan (three), Terengganu (two), Johor (one) and Melaka (one).

Dr Noor Hisham added that seven more fatalities were reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), raising the death toll to 187.

“A total of 86 cases are being treated at Intensive Care Units, with 28 requiring ventilator support.”
