Only higher secondary school students sitting for exams can return to school on Jan 20, says the Education Ministry.
The ministry said a discussion was held with the Health Ministry and the National Security Council (MKN), and it was decided that physical schooling sessions for students nationwide would only be for those sitting for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM), Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM), Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM), Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM), as well as international examinations for the 2020 batch.
The ministry said students who have registered for full-time boarding schools in Form Four and Form Five can remain in their hostels and follow their lessons online or return home and continue with PdPR.
Parents and guardians are allowed to pick up their children at any given time by following the guidelines sent.
Last year’s Form Five and Form Six students can also have classes in schools until their examinations are over.
The ministry also said Form One, Form Four and Form Five students in normal boarding schools can also remain in their hostels and follow online classes at their schools, or can return home and continue with the PdPR.
The same applies for the 2020 batch of Form Five and Form Six students as they can follow physical classes in schools until their examinations are over.
“Food and drinks for students in boarding schools will be prepared by the schools.
“For operational purposes, all teachers need to return to their duty stations by Jan 20.
“Teachers who are involved with exam year classes need to be present in schools to start physical classes.
It added that matriculation college students would need to remain in their respective colleges to continue hybrid learning.
Students who have entered Teachers’ Training Institute (IPG) who are at the hostels need to remain on their campuses.
“Classes for IPG students will be done online beginning tomorrow (Jan 17). Details on their practical and internships will be informed later, ” it added.
At the same time, private kindergartens registered with the Ministry can continue to have physical classes.
The Ministry urged everyone to follow the guidelines set, adding that it is always committed to help the government reduce the spread of Covid-19 infections.
