KUALA LUMPUR – Occupancy rates at Intensive Care Units (ICU) involving Covid-19 patients in five states are over 50 per cent.
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Kelantan was the highest at 94 per cent, followed by Melaka (71 per cent), Johor (67 per cent), Kuala Lumpur (58 per cent) and Putrajaya (50 per cent),
He said occupancy rates at non-Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds for Covid-19 cases in 12 states were above 50 per cent.
“Bed utilisation in Kelantan was at 113 per cent, followed by Selangor (104 per cent), Putrajaya (99 per cent), Kuala Lumpur (90 per cent), Perak (88 per cent), Perlis (75 per cent), Pahang (71 per cent), Johor (69 per cent), Sabah (64 per cent), Terengganu (61 per cent), Sarawak (59 per cent), and Penang (59 per cent),” he said in a statement today.
He also said only one Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC), located in Melaka reported occupancy of more than 50 per cent.
“The total percentage of ventilator utilisation stands at 35 per cent, including Covid and non-Covid patients.”
Dr Noor Hisham explained that there were differences between the daily data of Covid-19 hospitalisations and Categories 1 to 5 cases logged daily.
He says this was due to the dynamic clinical condition of the patient, where their situation could worsen or improve over time.
“For instance, for those who were originally designated to Category 2A and isolated at home under Home Surveillance Order (HSO), their condition could worsen to Category 3 or higher and they would need to be admitted.
“On February 26, Covid-19 cases admitted to hospitals were 1,624 with 598 from Categories 3 to 5 (36.8 per cent), while the remaining 1,026 were in Categories 1 and 2 (63.2 per cent).”
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham says Malaysia recorded 27,299 Covid-19 cases on Sept 26, raising the total number of infections to date to 3,395,170.
Of the fresh infections, he said 256 were imported cases (215 Malaysians and 41 foreigners), while the remaining 27,043 were local transmissions (26,305 Malaysians and 738 foreigners).
From the 27,299 cases reported on Feb 26, he said 129 were in categories 3 to 5 and 27,170 in categories 1 and 2.
“A total of 8,846 patients (32.41 per cent) were in category 1, 18,324 cases in category 2 (67.12 per cent), 62 in category 3 (0.23 per cent), 33 in category 4 (0.12 per cent) and 34 in category 5 (0.12 per cent.
“Of the 129 cases in categories 3 to 5, 24.81 per cent or 32 patients were unvaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated, 71 patients (55.04 per cent) were fully immunised but not boosted, 26 cases (20.16 per cent) have been boosted, 65 cases (50.39 per cent) are aged 60 and above, 35 cases (27.13 per cent) are co-morbid and one case (0.78 per cent) is a pregnant mother.”
Dr Noor Hisham further said a total of 348 patients were admitted at ICUs and 203 required ventilator support.
He also said 22,710 patients have recovered and were discharged on February 26. In Malaysia, he says registered seven new clusters on February 26, which brings the number of active clusters to 494.
He added that the country’s Rt value stands at 1.08 as of Feb 26.
“Perak registered the highest Rt at 1.34 followed by Labuan (1.31), Sarawak (1.26), and Terengganu (1.22), Perlis (1.19), Negri Sembilan (1.19), Penang (1.19), Pahang (1.18), Kuala Lumpur (1.18), Selangor (1.14), Kedah (1.14), Sabah (1.11), Kelantan (1.11), Putrajaya (1.06), Melaka (1.05) and Johor (1.01).”
