KUALA LUMPUR – With downpour having begun since Thursday night in some parts of the Klang Valley, it has eased up in certain areas this morning but the overwhelming floods have yet to recede entirely.
Desperate netizens turned to Twitter to look for help under the hashtag #DaruratBanjir as they brave through the relentless rain and cold weather.
A heart-rending video, captured the harrowing ordeal faced by Residents waiting for help at Surau Al-Munir Taman Sri Nanding in Hulu Langat. The video was posted by user @meejforshort at 8.17am, today.
The residents, soaked and shivering, were spotted on the rooftop of the building as the surau continued to get inundated.
“We have not received any help from last night to this morning. Please help, we have OKU and babies here. Every one of them are cold,” the user posted.
User @kamarul14 said, residents in Jalan Berkat 1, Kampung Seri Aman were unable to reach any emergency hotlines as several families urgently needed to be evacuated.
“There are still people in certain house and at the school here. There are big families, and we are worried of the elderly people and babies,” he tweeted.
Meanwhile, his friend was left stranded at his neighbour’s attic with his baby at Kampung Baru HICOM, Seksyen 26, Shah Alam.
“Some (residents in that area) are stranded on the second floor of their homes,” he said.
User @nursayang19 said, residents from her area braved the floods to reach Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 25 but were left disappointed when no help was made available there.
“It’s been 8 hours but there is no assistance at all coming in Sekolah Kebangsaan Seksyen 25. It’s raining heavily outside. We need blanket and food. Kids are crying. We came here by ourselves hoping there is assistance here but none. #DaruratBanjir,” read her tweet.
A New Straits Times photographer, Osman Adnan saw several road users trapped on a bridge at the Shah Alam Expressway following flash floods at Seksyen 23.
“They have been stuck here since last night. Many are hungry and disappointed as they cannot ensure the safety of their loved ones at home,” Osman said.
