Early Morning Rain Raises Alarm in Battered Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR – People in several flood-hit areas were woken up by sirens, alerting them of possible floods, following early morning rain today.

Several social media showed people coming out of their houses once the siren was sounded, followed by a PA announced by authorities, informing them to take precautionary steps.

In one of the videos shared showed the siren sounding in Kajang, Bangi and Semenyih. The announcement said, “Warning, warning, water level in the river near danger level, please take precautionary steps.”

This morning, the latest weather update by Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) said heavy rain is expected in Selangor (Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling and Kuala Langat), Johor (Pontian, Kulai and Johor Bahru), Sarawak (Limbang) until 11am.

A warning is issued when there are signs of possible thunderstorm with the rain intensity exceeding 20mm/per hour or rain for more than an hour.
