Four Killed in Two-Car Crash at North-South Expressway near Pendang

ALOR STAR – Four people were killed, with one of them burnt to death in a crash involving two cars at KM58.2 of the North-South Expressway near Pendang here early today.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon said the crash involved a Proton Wira and a Nissan Almera which caught fire following the crash.

“The dead victims in the Proton Wira were identified as Shahrin Hafi Omar, 49, Mohamad Syafiq Kassim, 26, and the third Identified only as Arni, 52.

“The identity of the Nissan Almera driver has yet to be determined as the car was completely gutted in the fire,” she said in a statement.

Sayani said rescuers from the Pendang and Jalan Raja fire stations were despatched to the scene upon receiving distress call about 2.22am.

“The crash involved a Proton Wira and a Nissan Almera, which was 90 per cent burnt.

“The Nissan Almera driver was trapped in the burning car while three other victims in the Proton Wira were also killed in the car that turned turtle following the crash,” she said.

Sayani said all the bodies in the Proton Wira were removed from the vehicle by 4.52am while the remains of the Nissan Almera driver was taken out about an hour later.
