Kampung Kedai Lama Residents Relocated Before Floods Hit

RANTAU PANJANG – Some 200 villagers living along Golok river have begun moving out from their house when the river kept on break its banks today.

The residents who live in Kampung Kedai Lama took their own initiative by moving to a nearby relief centre at SK Rantau Panjang 2, here.

Housewife Ramlah Tahir, 55, said she and her five family members had packed their important belongings last night.

“We are very lucky cause the relief centre is located about 250m from our house. We can just walk or ride our motorcycles over there,” said Ramlah.

Sundry shop owner, Shukri Abdul Rahman, 55, said his shop was inundated by 1m of flood water since morning.

“I had to bring all my goods to the upper ground for safety before we moved to SK Rantau Panjang 2,” said Shukri.

A survey at the village today showed that villagers started to leave their homes at about noon today.

The villagers spotted carrying packages and bags while walking and riding their bikes.

Since Friday, Sungai Golok continued to breach its banks following heavy downpour.
