Kelantan Flood Victims Ready to Return Home After Situation Improves

RANTAU PANJANG – Flood victims in the district who were evacuated to two relief centres here over the past nine days, are prepared to return home after floodwaters in their village receded.

Now, the victims are taking shelter at SK Gual Periok and SK Tok Deh. The victims moved to the centres since Dec 19.

Since the situation has improved, many people decided to return to their respective homes in stages since last week.

Flood victim Rohani Deraman said, she and her five children are ready to return from SK Gual Periok relief centre to their homes this evening.

“I have asked my eldest son to return to our home this morning to do the clean-up work.

Another victim Muhamad Faris Mohd Yusoff said many evacuees at the centre had returned to their homes yesterday evening.

“My parents, my youngest brother and I will go home today but we believe we will return home only for a few days as we were informed that there will be another round of floods coming,” said the third of four siblings.

The 19-year-old student who is from Kampung Bawah Lembah, Gual Periok and his family were among 88 victims who remained at the centre today.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in the state returned to normal today with levels at major rivers receding.

As of noon today, only two relief centres were opened with 311 flood victims evacuees.

A total 88 victims were now taking shelter at SK Gual Periok while another 223 at SK Tok Deh.
