KUANTAN – Last month, the state capital recorded some 16,000 victims during the peak of the disaster. Recently, it continues to register an increase in victims for the second wave of floods.
Pahang has 2,643 victims from 776 families seeking shelter at 47 relief centres as of 9am today, with Kuantan recording 643 victims from 168 families at six relief centres compared to 357 people last night.
Yesterday, Lipis was the worst hit district in the second wave of flood with 539 victims saw a dip with 146 victims from 46 families remaining at six relief centres.
Rompin which was spared during the first wave of floods last week has 443 victims from 127 families at eight relief centres, while Raub with 240 victims from 75 families at 11 relief centres.
Jerantut has 181 victims from 46 families seeking shelter at four relief centres.
Victims in Bera rose to 145 people from 35 families at four centres compared to 14 people earlier yesterday.
Early last year, Maran was severely crippled by floods. Now, Maran has 39 victims from 12 families at one centre.
Meanwhile, Temerloh and Pekan registered 691 and 115 victims respectively which included victims hit by the first wave of floods who have yet to return home since arriving at the relief centre in stages since Dec 19.
A state Civil Defence Force (APM) spokesman said, the weather in most districts has been gloomy with villagers living in low-lying areas prepared to leave their homes in case of floods.
He said, “in most areas, flood victims have just returned and cleaned their homes. However, they on standby to leave their homes if required. Last night, most districts have recorded a slight increase in flood victims.
At the height of the floods last month, nine districts were struck forcing some 65,000 people to be evacuated.
