Malaysia recorded 1,228 Covid-19 cases, the highest daily tally since the pandemic began in March

Malaysia recorded a significant jump in Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours which is 1,228, the highest daily tally since the pandemic began in March.

The last record high was reached on 17 October, with 869 cases nationwide.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 221 today, with seven new deaths recorded, six in Sabah and one in Perak.

Of the new infections, only 11 are imported, while the rest are local transmissions.

According to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, 889 of the new infections are in Sabah; while 96 were registered in Negeri Sembilan; and 95 were detected in the Klang Valley.

Other cases were detected in, among others, Kedah (76), Penang (23), Labuan (21) and Perak (10).

Meanwhile, 82 cases are in intensive care, with 31 requiring breathing support.

Dr Noor Hisham added that 671 patients were declared fully recovered today and discharged from hospitals.
