Man Sells Off Land to Buy Prized Koi

His passion for superior-quality koi fish led Mohd Zulkifli Husin to spend all the money he earned from a land sale to buy the carp worth RM300,000 each.

His bought the best breed that often comes out on top in international competitions from Japan. The breed was Sakai Kohaku type that the 46-year-old.

According to Harian Metro, Zulkifli, who is also known as Usop Cerek, from Kampung Gong Pauh here in Terengganu said, he was a hardcore fan of Koi and has been involved in its breeding since 2015.

“I sold my land just to buy the first-rate quality Sakai Kohaku koi.

“The fish is still at a koi farm in Japan. Koi enthusiasts giving me offers to buy it with the latest offer at RM450,000.

“I am not ready to sell it because the market price for this koi breed can reach up to RM600,000 each.”

He also said, he want to enter his prized koi in competitions in Japan and no intention to bringing it to Malaysia.

“The fish price and exclusivity value will drop if I bring it home. Also, it will be tough to find buyers who are ‘brave’ enough to buy it at market price.

“Since koi enthusiasts from all over the world are concentrated in Japan, so I may be able to sell it at high price there.”

Zulkifli said he had about 40 koi fish of various breeds including Omosako Shiro Utsuri, Doitsu Showa, Benikiko, Sanke Sakai, Dainichi Showa and Momotaro Kohaku in his house pond. All the 40 koi fish was worth more than RM500,000.

“The koi I have now in the house pond is worth between RM20,000 and 60,000 each. I spent about RM2,000 a month on fish feed and vitamins.”
