KOTA BHARU – More relief centres have been activated in Kelantan as the flood situation in the east-coast state worsened today.
The state welfare department’s portal revealed that a total of 44 relief centres were activated as of 9am this morning to accommodate 3,748 victims.
The portal stated that these evacuees, involving 864 families including 1,247 children, were now taking shelter at relief centres in five districts.
Gua Musang, Kuala Krai, Jeli, Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah are Kelantan districts affected by the flood.
Meanwhile, at 9am this morning, two rivers in the state remained above the danger level.
The rivers are Sungai Kelantan in Lebir which was measured at 34.61 m, in Kusial (16.95m) and in Kuala Krai (34.61m).
The other river is Sungai Golok in Tanah Merah (22.93m) and Pasir Mas (10.04m).
Three other rivers were measured above their warning levels including Sungai Pergau in Jeli (72.71m) and Sungai Lebir in Kuala Koh (67.57m).
Kelantan Menteri Besar, Datuk Ahmad Yakob advised those in low-lying areas to get ready move to following the latest weather forecast by MetMalaysia.
“If possible, try not to move out from the houses at night, as it is not safe for both the flood victims and the rescue teams,” he added.
