TEMERLOH – Students from 41 schools in Pahang who could not participate in the school session which began on Jan 10 will continue with home-based learning (PdPR).
The students from 33 primary and eight secondary schools were unable to attend classes after the premises were either closed because of floods or used as temporary relief centres while one was still under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
State Religious Affairs and Education Committee chairman Datuk Seri Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad said 13 schools were still inundated by floodwaters. Also the floods at seven premises have receded but cleaning works have yet to be completed.
“The school session had to be postponed to another date and all the students will attend PdPR lessons. This is because of 41 schools including 21 premises which had served as relief centres. Besides the floods, SK Felda Jengka 25 was closed after the area was placed under the EMCO.
“The floods have completely receded in some schools. However, preparations to reopen for students are still ongoing. Works include cleaning the building, preparing the classrooms which served as relief centres for lessons and arranging the furniture,” he was quoted as saying by newsportal Fikrah Pahang after visiting SK Paya Taram which was affected by the recent floods.
Meanwhile Syed Ibrahim said the state Education Department has made arrangements for the PdPR lessons to be conducted. So the affected students will not have to skip lessons.
“The teachers at the respective schools have experience conducting PdPR. But, this will not be too long. The students can return to school as once the premises are ready to reopen,” he said.
On a separate matter, he said Pahang is prepared to work with the Federal government to relocate schools which have been constantly threatened by the floods to new sites.
“This is a long term plan to overcome the floods… If the Federal government can provide the budget, the state government will identify a suitable site to relocate schools,” he said.
