KLUANG – The Orang Asli community in Kahang, a town in the Kluang district, want more Hardcore Poor Housing Programme (PPRT) homes to be built to cater to the needs of their second and third generation.
A resident of Kampung Orang Asli Punjut, Tenggara Jaafar, 42, said the construction of PPRT has provided comfort and improved the living standards of the Orang Asli in the rural areas.
“More PPRT should be constructed because now many of our children stay with their parents even after they are married, to an extent that there are two or three families living in a house,” he said.
According to him, the construction of more PPRT will enable the second and third generations of the Orang Asli community to live more independently and to have their own house.
Ramlan Adong, 51, said the government used to provide a lot of assistance for the Orang Asli community and he hoped that any party given the mandate to rule Johor after the March 12 state election would not neglect them.
“We are not clever, but we are not stupid either. We know which party we want to vote for. We know which party has helped us for a long time,” he added.
Sri Tanjung Orang Asli village head, Jais Said, 55, said the Orang Asli community needed a new bridge in the village to make it easier for residents to collect the oil palm.
The Punjut Orang Asli Village and Sri Tanjung Orang Asli Village are among the nine Orang Asli villages in the Kahang state constituency.
The other seven villages are Batu 26 Orang Asli Village, Pengkalan Terih Orang Asli Village, Tewowoh Orang Asli Village, Berasau Orang Asli Village, Sedehok Orang Asli Village, Air Pasir Orang Asli Village and Sri Kenangan Orang Asli Village.
