IPOH – The search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate two victims who were trapped under the debris of a limestone quarry landslide at Keramat Pulai, Jalan Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands, here continues today following clear skies and no reports of soil movement.

The SAR operation which began at 8.47am was assisted by the Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Malaysia (Storm) team, Department of Mineral and Geoscience Malaysia (JMG), K9 Unit, Drone Unit and the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Smart).

Yesterday, two men were reportedly buried under the debris of the landslide, which took place at about 9.30am.

The trapped victims were identified as Itam Bah Lasoh, 43, and Kheow Loo Siew Soon, 49.

Two others who were injured in the incident were identified as Pan Tam, 38; and Mohd Razli Suhaimi, 35, who sustained a broken leg.

They were rushed to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here for further treatment.

The SAR operation had to stop yesterday following heavy rain and soil movement detected at the landslide area.

The family members of both victims were spotted at the scene.

Perak Mineral and Geoscience Department director Datuk Ahmad Zukni Ahmad Khalil yesterday had said that unpredictable weather coupled with incessant consistent rainfall over the last two weeks triggered soil movements that led to a landslide.

Ahmad Zukni had said that quarries involved in the area were among the quarries that were actively operating in Simpang Pulai.
