KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has given an exemption for the rental of canteens and premises or space for six months from July to the end of this year due to the closure of schools.

Its Minister, Datuk Radzi Jidin said, the MOE also gave the extension of the canteen and premises rental contract in the school automatically for one year when the original contract expires.

“KPM also understands the difficulties faced by canteen operators, as well as tenants of premises/space (bookstores/cooperatives/laundry shops/vending machines) affected by the closure of schools under KPM,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook account, on Sunday.

Commenting further, Radzi said, KPM understands the difficulties faced by service providers, especially contractors for Building and Area Cleaning (KBK) services and Cooked Food Supply (BMB) services in institutions under KPM due to PKP.

“Therefore, the KBK service contractor will be paid in full as stated in the contract and there is no issue of the contractor having to cut the salaries of KBK employees.

“As for BMB services, KPM will extend the service contract to the contractors involved by taking into account the service period affected due to the implementation of PKP.

“KPM is confident that this initiative can help ease the financial burden of service providers in institutions under KPM as well as employees affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
