The Business Administration UKM – Graduate School of Business (UKM-GSB) together with KPJ Healthcare Berhad and the Green Ribbon Group have launched the #ItsOkayNotToBeOkay campaign to raise awareness and connect the public with resources to help them tackle potential mental health challenges.
The campaign, which is a joint initiative under the banner Helping Hearts, does not only seek to spread awareness on mental health, but also spark reflection in individuals towards their existing attitudes and perceptions of persons with mental health conditions.
The campaign also aims to educate and equip the public with tips and knowledge to interact and support people with mental health conditions and facilitate more conversations on the subject.
“We have to change the conversation on mental health. We have to break the silence for those who suffer and encourage them to share more about their experiences. Anywhere can be the light at the end of the tunnel for someone who is struggling,” says Green Ribbon Group co-founder and president, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Iman Afzan Al-Sultan Abdullah.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a monumental effect on mental health with more people facing unprecedented challenges that add to the already prevalent stress and anxiety they feel in their daily lives.
Most mental disorders can be successfully treated if the signs and symptoms associated with it are detected early.
Associate Professor Dr Norzalita Abd Aziz of UKM-GSB says thanks to a team effort, this campaign is available to more people and connecting those in need of mental health treatment.
The Helping Hearts Instagram and Facebook pages have been set up to kick-start the conversation. Other activities within the campaign include webinars for corporations and showcasing positive physical messages in public areas.
