Terengganu Provides an Incentive of More Than RM80,000 to Vietnam SEA Games Athletes

KUALA TERENGGANU – The state government gave recognition to Terengganu athletes who excelled at the Hanoi SEA Games last month when each of them received incentives in the form of cash.

A total of 34 athletes who won medals in the Southeast Asian Games were celebrated in the 2022 Sukma Contingent Chief Proclamation Ceremony and the 31st SEA Games Victory Prize Scheme (Shake) Incentive Presentation in Vietnam officiated by Menteri Besar of Terengganu, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar at Wisma Darul Iman yesterday.

Highway cycling athletes who won one gold, two silver and one bronze medal topped the list of the most recipients of the incentive, which was RM39,000.

An incentive of RM13,000 was given to the archer who won one silver and one bronze medal, followed by the petanque athlete who won RM12,000 after winning one silver and one bronze while the MTB cyclist won an incentive of RM11,500 after winning one gold.

Athletes who were also receiving the incentive were pencak silat athletes who won RM7,000 in cash, RM5,500 in athletics and RM5,000 each by e-sports, muay Thai, sepak takraw, judo and football athletes.

Meanwhile, gymnastics, kurash and shooting athletes each received an incentive of RM4,000, karate RM3,500, taekwondo RM3,000, boxing RM3,000 and fencing RM2,500.

Chairman of the State’s Sports Youth Development Committee and Non -Governmental Organizations, Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said, the success of the 34 athletes in winning medals in the games was a very proud success and exceeded the target set by the Terengganu State Sports Council (MSNT).

He said, a total of RM143,000 Shake incentive was given to athletes who managed to contribute medals for the country in the sports event, thus being able to inspire the athletes to continue fighting on the international stage.

“Of the 39 gold medals won by the national contingent at the Games, three of them were contributed by athletes from Terengganu through Mohd Nur Aiman ​​Mohd Zariff in the highway cycling event, Ahmad Nor Iman Aliff Rakib in the muay Thai event and MTB cycling team events through Zulfikri Zulkifli and Ahmad Syazrin Awang Ilah, “he said.

Of the 49 Terengganu athletes who flew the national flag in the Games, they also managed to contribute nine silver and 14 bronze medals to the national contingent, thus proving that athletes from this state are among the biggest medal contributors.

“The state government has high hopes with the incentive, it is not only able to inject their spirit to continue to fight for the country’s name but also hope it can inspire other athletes to pursue success on the highest sports stage,” he said when met after the ceremony. This ceremony was also attended by State Secretary, Datuk Tengku Farouk Hussin Tengku Abdul Jalil and MSNT Director, Ahmad Shahrizal Yahaya.

During the ceremony, the state government also officially announced the appointment of the Deputy State Secretary (Development) and Director of the State Economic Planning Unit (Upen), Tun Ahmad Faisal Tun Abdul Razak as the Head of the Terengganu Contingent in the 20th edition of the Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Kuala Mud from 16 to 24 September.
