The government will enforce an administrative Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO) on the Alor Star Prison starting at 12.01 am 6 October, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said no movement in or out of the area will be permitted throughout the 14-day period, including by families of inmates. The TEMCO is meant to stem the spread of Covid-19 within the area, while also allowing targeted contact tracing to be done.

“Following a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the area, the government, on the advice of the Health Ministry, has decided to impose an administrative TEMCO on the prison’s compound, including its staff quarters, for 14 days from 12.01 am on 6 October 2020. The enforcement of the TEMCO is aimed at containing the Covid-19 spread and allowing targeted detection activity.”

This is the second time that a TEMCO has been implemented in Kedah, the first being the Kota Setar district, centred on the Tongkang Yard Flats in Seberang Perak, from 25 September onwards due to the high number of cases in the area.
